Description: This is a rare 1845 (undated in book itself) mid-19th Century antique copy of ‘Select Popular Tales’ from the German of Musaeus. Printed by: Edward Lumley, London Bookseller: Burns & Lambert, 17 Portman Street and 63 Paternoster Row, London Fly-leaf inscription by the original owner “N Semple” dated 1858, and reference inside to the wood-cut engravings from a German illustrated edition dated 1842. The front and back cover panels are stamped in blind red with dramatic patterns, showing signs of rubbing/storage and the spine is stamped in gold (possibly gilt or leaf finish). Page end papers on all sides - top, side and bottom are gold edged. Six wood-cut engraving prints inside I don’t think this has ever been read, it’s in such fabulous condition.
