Description: Vintage Brass Sediment Sampler Forest Mechanical Specialties 2407 N St Louis Ave Chicago Illinois Tested working. I believe this was used some time around the 1960's or 70's. All components are brass except for the rubber seals, the rope, and the rope holder. The rubber is still pliable and is not dry rotted at all. Central shaft supports the top and bottom rubber seals. Shaft is pushed down and latched. Cylinder hangs via chain midway between top and bottom seals, allowing water to pass through as sampler is lowered. Sampler is lowered to depth. Sliding brass weight is then released and strikes the latch mechanism, which releases the central assembly and contracts the seals, sealing in water from the desired depth.
