Description: Up for sale is a beautiful Comoy's of London vintage faux scrimshaw trinket box carved in the shape of a seal. On the box are detailed scrimshaw maritime scenes, including an old sailing ship. This beautiful scrimshaw trinket box is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, breaks, chips. The base has the felt covering and has the Comoy's sticker. The box measures approximately 5 1/2" long, 3" at it's widest point with 2" high and is quite a weighty piece. Of course it isn't made with real bone, but is made of ivory-like resin compound material. The scrimshawing however, is real. Comoy's of London is the iconic producer of some of the best smoking pipes in the world. They have a very storied history dating back to the 1800s. Over the years Comoys expanded their product line to include products for the "discerning gentlemen" to include walking sticks, figurines and trinket boxes. Very detailed scrimshaw accessories were created in the style of the brave shipmen and sea life of the past. This is a lovely and useful piece for any desk, bureau or shelf. It would make a perfect gift for anyone or treat yourself.
