This Art Deco glass compote, designed by George Sakier, is now discontinued.Dimensions: 6"L x 6"H (4.5"L Bottom)Weight: 1 lbThe Fostoria Glass Company was established in Fostoria, Ohio, on December 15, 1887, attracted by low natural gas prices. However, due to the short supply of gas, the company relocated to Moundsville, West Virginia, in 1891, where resources were more abundant.Initially focused on pressed ware, Fostoria shifted its attention to high-quality blown stemware in the early 20th century. In 1924, it became a pioneer in national advertising and the first to offer complete crystal dinner services. Fostoria also produced custom glassware, including pieces for U.S. government officials, and supplied glassware to presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan. At its peak in 1950, the company employed nearly 1,000 people and produced over 8 million pieces of glass. The AMERICAN pattern, introduced in 1915, remained in production under Lancaster Colony, which acquired Fostoria in 1983, making it the most successful glass pattern ever. Unfortunately, due to outdated facilities and foreign competition, Lancaster Colony closed Fostoria in 1986, marking the end of nearly a century of glassmaking.1L#84LJP Payment Feedback Shipping Returns Payment Payment terms coming soon Feedback Feedback terms coming soon Shipping Shipping terms coming soon Returns Returns terms coming soon HomeAbout UsView all listingsContact UsShipping Copyright © 2018 EllisAntiques.
