Description: HH Scott was one of the premier American hi-fi-brands in the 1960‘s and 1970‘s, best known for tuners, amplifiers and receivers. Their lesser known "S" series speakers were well made products that consistently received great reviews and praise for good value. Like so many classic companies Scott would falter in the 1980‘s but before they became a made in Japan brand, they still managed to make some excellent speakers in the USA. This pair of S-14 is a classic two-way acoustic suspension speaker with the 1960's New England sound that characterized a dozen or so brands that dominated the market until the late 70's. Scott made these specifically as speakers for compact systems they were marketing to compete with KLH. 6.5 inch woofer and 3.5 inch cone tweeter. A really pleasant sounding speaker with a solid cabinet and walnut veneer. If you want a real 60's listening experience these will give you a fine presentation from a rather compact size. We pair these with a full featured small amplifier from Lafayette Radio Electronics. The Model LA- 950A (1975) was one of the best and most popular in a line of small amplifiers marketed by Lafayette in the early 1970''s. Like many manufacturers Lafayette's advertising grossly inflated the power of their amps before FTC regulations in the mid-1970's put a stop to meaningless power specifications.Without measurement of continuous watts per channel to 8 ohm speakers, its hard to tell what their "real" power was -- an amp advertised at "100" watts in 1970 was first revised downwards to 80 watts --- but realistically we are looking at something like 12 watts rms per channel. That is enough to produce a good listening experience with the relatively efficient Scott speakers. Unlike many of their low end competitors, the Lafayette amps featured heavyweight construction and a conservative and consistent circuitry design. Lafayette built most of its amps and receivers with a single Japanese subcontractor and from the late 1960's to mid-1970's they offered many inexpensive amplifiers that performed well. Generally they were larger, heavier and "clunkier"than many of their competitors and overall build quality was good, with an emphasis on reliability in the long run. Solid value. Cosmetically the line evolved from an unattractive industrial look to more sophisticated styling more in line with higher priced competitors. I am quite fond of their series of black faced amps from this period : the LA-125B, LA-150, LA-324, LA-375, LA-450, LA-750 and the LA-950. Performance is more than acceptable -- yes they are not quite up to the big name brands of the era -- but they still provide necessary features, good construction, long term reliability and better than average sound quality. Audiophiles have long ignored these products. They deserve more respect. We offer this a system that truly exemplifies the late 60's- early 70's sound that many will recognize and appreciate. If you are interested in purchasing the individual components, please message us and we will list them for sale. If you want a more powerful amplifier message us about the Lafayette LA-125B Most purchasers east of the Mississippi and north of Florida will receive a refund of excess shipping charges.
