Description: A really cool piece. Recently received a professional 25+ hour “makeover.” All of the original thick and damaged full body mahogany stain finish was completely stripped. The top and door … as well as the drawer front, are all believed to be mahogany. A maker’s nameplate for the maker’s initials is still affixed to the bottom; but, is faded. This piece was probably made in a small factory, and perhaps mass produced, in the 1930s -1940s. The rich orange wood base, box, and legs … appear to be a rare, glowing butternut soft wood. Fabulous wood grain. Long tapered legs highlight this stand … from 1.25” at the top … to 1.0” at the bottom. Heavy original hardware exists. The flowery heavy “pewterish” drawer pull weighs close to a half ounce. (See photos.) The door’s hinges and latch mimic vintage ice box nickel plated hardware. The door latch closes; but, not real tightly. (The spring therein could be replaced or adjusted for a tighter closure if desired; but, it’s not really necessary.) The lining is a substantial sheet metal … with a copper added faux finish; done well. The top is of 3 boards. We had it stripped down to the raw wood and it may be mahogany. But … the 3 tongue & grooved top board pieces were not the exact same dimension (the widths varied slightly from front to back) and if it was left natural, those disparate boards and the joints might “jump out”… and were clearly a different wood stock and grain than the striking butternut cabinet box and legs. Symmetry ruled. So we had the top professionally sprayed to conceal that irregularity… and the darker wood door and darker wood drawer followed suit. The door wood being similar to the top, and drawer, and likely mahogany.) A kind of “sleek industrial look” glossy black spray finish for the top, drawer front, and door … was chosen for contrast … in 5 separate thin coats. (That color could easily be changed. Teal sounds good, too; or even a bright lime or pale lemon. A cream color or off-white would be a good contrast with the butternut-like wood, too. That’s your call. If you desire a different paint color than the black ... we could do it for an additional $75 bucks total ... for labor and a paint allowance of $10 for the spray paint of your choosing. It would still be subject to your approval, after the "new paint job." Old wood in progress..... The drawer construction is tight and solid as a rock. Well made with tight front dovetailed joints. It’s really a unique piece. Tempted to start smoking cigars again. As mentioned though, it’s far from airtight. But it’s a neat place to stash … whatever. Your favorite cold drink would work well sitting on top of it, too…. [I’ve contemplated getting a custom cut thick piece of glass or plexiglass for the top (maybe half-inch thick with a curved green edge) for aesthetics and for “beer glass condensation purposes” … but that can be kinda pricey; the top’s close dimensions are 11 7/8” x 13 3/4”…..] Overall Dimensions: Height - 25” Top Width - 13 3/4” Top Depth - 11 7/8” Weight - 13 lbs.
