Description: This issue was published on May 15, 1961. The magazine begins with 18 pages of advertisements which, at the time, were probably easily dismissed. Today they read like historical documents. Although the cover story is Caroline Kennedy in the White House, I found the science article about the Mercury mission, Freedom 7, to be more compelling. In “national affairs” were political articles concerning President Kennedy, typical partisan infighting with the confirmation of Stewart Udall as Secretary of the Interior, and the text of a brief speech by US Attorney General Robert Kennedy on civil rights. And just to prove nothing changes essentially in D.C., there is an article about Nixon complaining that had the votes been counted properly, he would have won the election. There’s also a prophetic article about the communist advances in Vietnam. And a stark article about the condition of the new communist regime in Cuba and the effects on the population. And there’s a cringe-worthy article about homosexuals in the US Army; the description and language is very telling about the temper of the times. The magazine is in fair condition although the cover has completely separated from the staples. The pages are all intact and there are no marks. This will also work if you don’t remember your PayPal password. OTHER INTERNATIONAL BIDDER INFORMATION: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up; they are not additional shipping charges from me. I do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
