Description: Really nice Albert White oil painting with Native American figure flying with an Eagle. The Eagle is thought to have a connection to the “Great Spirit”. This bird is believed to have the ability to live in both the realms of Earth and Beyond. To many tribes, the eagle represents balance. There are special Abenaki myths that are associated with the Native American eagle symbol. Eagles are particularly revered for their ability to fly so close to the heavens, carry the prayers of the people to the spirit world. Albert White, A Mohawk Indian, has been following the traditions of recording and sharing the history of his people all his life. Born in Binghamton, he attended San Francisco Art Institute and graduated with honors from The Maryland Institute of Art. In 1975 he joined the American Indian Movement. Through this involvement he has seen and preserved, in paintings and memories, the struggles resulting in the resurgence of Indian pride and prominence. As an artist his paintings reflect sensitivity and power in wildlife, people and the land. His art work has been shown in venues across the country, and is in the permanent collections of major institutions. He has served as an exhibitor; lecturer and teacher in many prestigious locations, among them are Mansfield University, Harvard University, and the Iroquois Indian Museum. The legends and evolving history of Native Americans come alive in Albert's storytelling presentations. Many hundreds of people throughout Broome County, New York, and the nation have benefited by experiencing Native American Dancing, music and children's games all passed down through eons of generations. A fire ravaged his home in 2006, destroying everything but his spirit and a profound belief in following a spiritual and useful life. Albert's goal remains to continue a cultural sharing, planting the seeds of understanding for the future ... and expanding the knowledge of the true story of Native American Indians. I have several Native American paintings on eBay that my wife and I bought together in the Philadelphia area. This is the second Albert White. My wife and I collected prints and drawings thinking we would open up a store. Well we decided no store so selling on eBay. We had this painting hanging in our guest bedroom outside Boston, MA. We bought this over 30 years ago. Frame could be Curley maple. The frame is solid wood, extremely heavy and very pretty. Frame Size-27 1/2 by 21 3/4 inches Picture in frame - 23 1/2 by 18 3/4 Condition: I believe there is a scratch in the hair of the Native American person but you can hardly tell unless you really studying it. The frame is in really good shape except for a couple of scratches that could easily be fixed with some furniture polish. Look at the photos. The picture is painted on board. This picture would look really nice out west in a rustic lodge style home. But we hung it in our 1920 colonial.
