Description: Original Beautiful Sonja Henie Photo and 1948 Hollywood Ice Revue Program. Sonja Henie (1912 - 1969) was born in Norway to a wealthy family. She began to skate at the age of 8 and won many competitions. She competed in the 1924 Winter Olympics and came in eighth place. Sonja became the ice-skating world champion in 1927 and the following year she won an Olympic gold medal. She also won gold medals in the 1932 and 1936 Olympics. SHe wanted to try her hand at acting, so her father arranged for an “Ice Extravaganza” in Hollywood, hoping she would be noticed by a talent scout. She was signed to a contract by Darryl Zanuck. She became a box office sensation; audiences loved her, in spite of her limited acting capabilities and her thick accent. In 1939, she was one of the highest paid actresses. She continued to tour with her Hollywood Ice Revue along with her acting schedule. During WW2, her connections to Germany caused controversy. This issue, along with alcoholism, caused her movie career to decline. She continued to perform with her Ice Revues with a lot of success! My grandmother and mother collected film star photos and autographs from their respective eras. I have silent movie star photos left from my grandmother, and film stars from the 1940s and 1950s left from my mom. My mom kept her collection in a scrapbook (and then removed them); and also numbered her photos in the order received. I try to note all signs of pasting, numbers, pinholes, etc. in the description. (The red ebay sign will not be imprinted on the photo; it is a security mark to prevent copying.) The red velvet-flocked program is filled with wonderful photos of Miss Henie and her show. It is 16 pages. All the pages are complete with no tears. The middle spread lists the show contents into 2 acts. The flocking shows wear along the edges, given its age.The staples are still in place. It is not fragile, it is sturdy. The program is still a worthy keepsake. The matte photo measures 5” by 7”. It is numbered with a 193 in the top righthand corner. There is not pinhole, nor any signs of pasting on the reverse side. The corners indicate wear. There is a (fingerprint?) on the photo, if studied closely - on the left side (when viewed) of Miss Henie, where the snow and ice meet. This photo would look wonderful in a frame. The set would be a visual centerpiece displayed in a shadowbox! A keepsake for a skating fan, a Miss Henie fan, an Olympic Games fan, or a fan of Hollywood’s Golden Age!
