Description: Vintage Tether Car - 1949 IMRCA 1st Place CHAMP TrophyRobert (Bob) Loose started racing just after WW II, and was a founding member of the “Reading Hot Rods “tether car club. His lucrative commercial printing business allowed him the luxury of racing throughout the East coast, Midwest (1961 Ohio State Champion) and West coast. In 1947 he was instrumental in the building of Readings first cable track the “Belt Line Raceway “ , located just a block from his residence and business .In 1951 he published and printed his own newspaper “Miniature Race Car News” During the winter months he raced at Southern tracks and in Fla. Winner of numerous 1st and 2nd. Place championship events in the Custom Proto class. Loose competed in (14) AMRCA NATIONAL events between 1948 and 1963 with (2) firsts, (3) seconds, (1) third and (2) in forth. In 1949 he held (2) IMRCA (International Model Race Car Assoc.) World Speed records. In the early 60’s he designed, manufactured, marketed and successfully raced his own car, the “Loose Special” powered by a Franny Wolf prepared Dooling .61 engine. About a dozen cars were built. In 1962 he was part of the US team with then AMRCA president Glenn Fairabend that competed in Germany and at the “World Championships “held at Stockholm, Sweden. Loose were often a racing partner of Franny Wolf and Howard Fox (Fox Speedway, Bethlehem Pa.) and a member of the Lehigh Valley Racing Assoc. winning many events with a Fox car. The Fox Speedway became the last track to operate on the East Coast. Franny Wolf told us that he would always set up next to Loose in the pit area, because Loose could afford to use a new Champion Sparkplug after each run, Franny would pick up the used plug, clean it off and re use it! He remembers loose as being very competitive, but always ready to share his racing knowledge, help the club financially, promote the hobby, and always a gentleman on and off the race track. Bob Loose’s racing carrier is well documented in such publications as: Model Craftsman, Rail and Cable News, Model Race Car, Air Trails Hobbies for Young Men, and the AMRCA club newsletterBeing Offered: From the " International Model Race Car Assoc " (IMRCA) Championship Cable racers, held on Sept 17 & 18, 1949 at the long Island Auto Racing Society's E.
