Description: The set consists of a carafe shaped like a carp and six porcelain "fry." The large "fish" in the set is a carafe, a vessel for storing wine and other alcoholic beverages after opening. Its capacity is usually 700 ml. The other items are shot glasses with a capacity of 30 ml each. The first alcohol drinking set in the shape of fish was conceived by Georgian artist Abesalom Davydovich Baramidze, who lived in Riga. In 1950, he introduced a carafe in the shape of a fish. Photographs of Baramidze's set have not survived to this day, but it is known that the set was made in white and gold colors. From 1956 to 1959, the "fish" embarked on a true world tour. The set gained enormous popularity at ceramics exhibitions. In 1960, the "Fish" set began to be manufactured at factories in Riga and Tbilisi. In 1961, mass production of this set started at the Polonne Porcelain Factory in the Khmelnytskyi region and the Horodnytsia Porcelain Factory in the Zhytomyr region. The set was named "The Carp Family" and gradually reached stores across the Soviet Union. The two most popular color options were white-red and white-blue. The carafe cost 2 rubles 55 kopecks, and the shot glasses were 50 kopecks each. The legendary set remained on sale for almost 30 years, and during this time it was bought for nearly every home.
