Description: Vintage Frankoma 1977 Republican GOP Political Elephant Coffee Mug Cup. Cup has not been used. In gorgeous, glossy dusty rose glaze color is this 1977 Frankoma Republican GOP Elephant mug. Measures 4" tall by 5" trunk to tail by 2-3/4" wide. All of Frankoma's political mugs use the darker, reddish Sepulpa clay. Mug has no chips, cracks, fleabites, or repairs. Great condition! Frankoma started the Republican GOP Elephant Mugs in 1968 and the Democratic Donkey Mugs in 1975. Each year they were produced in a different color. Each inauguration year the victors' names were emblazoned on the mug. Frankoma pottery was made in Oklahoma from local clays by an Oklahoma University art professor beginning in the '30s. It is very popular in the region. The company has been through several iterations including closing its operations and was last reopened by an employee group.
