The latch is also metal and secured. Simonsen Metal Products started in Chicago in 1940 and was operating up until 1966 reaching its peak operating capacity during the 1950's. This toolbox is from an estate. A conversation with the previous owner's daughter indicates her dad served in World War II as a mechanic, most likely purchasing this toolbox after he came home. Lots of history here. Measures 18" long, about 7" wide, 8" tall. Domed top with great patina. 240706-1
