Description: Walter Pidgeon 1964 PHOTOS Ownership Rights Oscar Winner Contact Sheet Negatives Historic Hollywood Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... a vintage contact sheet featuring 10 images... and including original negatives... featuring actor Walter Pidgeon (each image is 2.25" x 2.25") ... and including all rights of ownership to the images for future publication or any other use associated with transfer of this lot. The receipt for final payment will release all rights of copyright ownership to the new buyer. The lot was originally obtained as part of a larger lot through Christie's New York (Dec. 20, 2002). No separate COA was issued at that time; but this collection was offered with Lot 48. Includes 10 images of Walter Pidgeon in attendance at a backstage reception being held in what appears to be the San Francisco's Hyatt House Music Theatre. The only clue is found on the wall of the dressing room... as actress Kathleen Freeman had noted her appearance in "Flower Drum Song" (starring Pat Suzuki) on September 15, 1964. As Freeman's is the only signature on the wall... it is assumed that this may be among the only surviving evidence of that opening night production. However, Walter Pigeon is the only face that we recognize among the many faces at this cocktail reception. Walter Pigeon (1897 - 1984) was among the most popular Hollywood actors of his generation. He was awarded two Academy Awards, with Oscar Awards for "Best Actor" in "Mrs. Miniver" (1943; with Greer Garson) and "Madame Curie" (also with Greer Garson; 1944). In addition, he was featured in the landmark Best Picture of 1941: "How Green Was My Valley." He also portrayed Florenz Ziegfeld in the 1968 Academy Award winning performance of Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl." Produced by Herb Rogers, this theatre represented a new attempt to establish a theatre-in-the-round in the bay area; similar to "Melodyland", which had opened across the street from Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The Hyatt Music Theatre was actually located several miles from San Francisco near the Burlingame Hyatt. In approx. 1974 the theatre was converted into a motion picture cinema, The Circle Star, which was eventually foreclosed and demolished in 1997. The investors in the original 2,500 seat theatre included Debbie Reynolds, Steve Allen, Johnny Mercer and Nat King Cole. Legendary performers such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and Judy Garland played to packed houses during the theatre's better days... About Us Combined Shipping Available Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe. Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!" We are glad to combine shipping for multiple purchases in order to reduce costs whenever possible. Simply let us know before processing payment for the items selected and we'll be glad to revise and forward a final invoice to reflect the combined shipping price.
