This pre-dated both the tankobon and the anime, making this the 1st appearance of Detective Conan in any medium. The book is rare - mayble a couple of copies come up for auction in an entire year on the Japanese auction sites. It was graded 4.0 ("Very Good") by Beckett / CBCS with "Off-White / White Pages". Beckett then sealed the book in a hard plastic case. Its most noticeable defects reponsible for the grade (noted on the label) are "1 piece of achival tape on cover & 1 piece on interior cover." Fakes are fairly rare, with the exception of 4 books: Shonen Jump 1984 No. 51 (1st Dragon Ball); Shonen Jump 1999 No. 43 (1st Naruto); Shonen Jump 1998 No. 14 (1st Hunter X Hunter); and Shonen Jump 1997 No. 34 (1st One Piece).
