The Order was established by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in southern Russia on April 30, 1920, to reward the generals and admirals, headquarters and chief officers, as well as lower ranks who have the St. George Cross of at least the third degree for military exploits. The Order had two degrees, different only in external dimensions. The Order of “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker “ from April 1920 to end of 1922 received 337 people. (of them posthumously 23 people).
