Description: Wileman & Co Potteries - The Foley China - (pre Shelley)Salad plate The plate is an over all yellow beige with soft pastel pink, green, and orange converging to the center Gold trim with scalloped edges Diameter - 9 1/2"This plate is an all over yellow color but is hard to depict in the pictures Plate is gently pre owned and in good condition - wear to the plate & to the gold trim- see pictures for details According to the National Shelley China Club site, Wileman & Company was formed in 1872 to run the Foley China Works and a variety of backstamps were used over the years. The backstamp, on these plates, assigns them to - Wileman & Co which dates from 1872 - 1910. Both Wileman and Shelley were assigned a registration number for each design submitted to the patent's office. These numbers were usually six digits but can sometimes be less. Wileman & Shelley registered designs by pattern or shape and sometimes both. On the back, impressed into the plate, is Rd115510 which is the registration number. In this case the number 115510 registers the shape, Daisy, and was registered on 10/12/1888. Information from the Board of Trade Records, National Archives and the British Library were sourced to create a list of known registration numbers found on the the site, Shelley Group. It is not a complete list but it does list known registered numbers for both Wileman and Shelley companies. It is important to note that not all of the pattern/shape design information for Wileman and Shelley companies were officially registered in that time period.
