Description: WR Midwinter Inverted Backstamp Error! “RW “ on Willow Plate Pre-1932 Rarity! To be clear, this is NOT a backstamp of his son, Roy Midwinter, as confirmed by Steve Birks from www.thepotteries.org, whose intitals were also WR, as in Wiliam Roy. This is an early, pre 1932 backstamp; the word “Limited” or abbreviation Ltd does not appear until post-1932. http://www.potteryhistories.com/midwintermarks.html . According to Steve Birks, this very rare error apparently occurred only in the Willow series. This listing is for ONE plate. The Willow pattern design is thought to have been inspired by a Japanese fairy tale called The Green Willow, and Chinese variants of it, which tells of two thwarted lovers. By the late 1800s many British ceramics companies produced wares with some variant of the Willow Pattern, and it remained popular with buyers throughout the 1900s.
