Description: Vintage Antique WM. Beatty & Son Cast Steel, From Chester PA. U.S.A. Cleaver, "Hog Splitter", With The #1 Stamped On The Cleaver. Dimensions are: Blade is 8.25" Long, X Front Edge, 5.5", Back Edge, 3.75", overall length is 16.5". Blade is hi-carbon steel. Total Weight is 2.55 lbs. Blade has scratches, stains, and marks, from normal use, along the top edge there are some hit marks. Cleaver is tight, no loose parts. It has wonderful patina. Blade also shows some pitting in one area, pictures will show. Cleaver Has What is Called a Hamon Line, which is the outline of a hardened zone, which contains the cutting edge. Blades made in this manner, are known as differentially hardened, and you can clearly see the Hamon line in photos 1,3,4,11,12,17, And 19. Cleaver is from the late 1800's- Early 1900's. It was found in a late grandmother's attic. Large wood handle has no chips, or cracks. Handle does have scratches, marks, and some nicks from normal use. Cleaver is a nogent style, meaning one pin through the back of the handle, full tang, Large wood handle. Vintage Antique WM.
