Description: WOODY HERMAN Description Scarce and highly collectible original first printing concert handbill advertising American jazz clarinetist and big band leader Woody Herman at the Fairfield Hall in Croydon [England] on Sunday, 18th May, 1969, presented by Harold Davison. By this time, Herman came to be heavily influenced by rock music. The albums Light My Fire and Heavy Exposure were good examples — both recorded at Ter Mar Studios in Chicago and produced by Richard Evans was a good example. Light My Fire was nominated for a Best Jazz Performance — Large Group. Herman also began to feature brass and woodwind instruments not traditionally associated with jazz, such as the bassoon, oboe or French horn. The orchestra for the European tour consisted of John Hicks (piano); Arthur Harper (bass); Jack Ranelli (drums); Vince Prudente, Bob Burgess, Bruce Fowler (trombones); Ronnie Cuber, Sal Nistico, Frank Vicari, Steve Lederer (saxophones); Harry Hall, John Madrid, Gary Grant, Galen Jeter, Bill Byrne, and Bill Chasie (trumpets). The flyer has been authentically signed by Woody Herman in blue ballpoint. The handbill measures 15.3 x 23.2 cm (approx. 6" by 9" inches) and is beautifully printed in orange and black inks on thin, matte-coated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. Folded twice horizontally with light surface handling wear.
