It is a tool for testing the condition of fabric on airplanes or parachutes for World War Two Air Force airplanes. It is called a Seyboth Fabric Tester - Penetrating Cone - Type III and was manufactured by the Langley Corporation in San Diego California.It dates back to World War Two.This tool comes in its original wooded box that has a metal plaque on the outside that has all the directions for using it. Inside is the tool itself which is a black metal handle with a sharp point that when you remover the protective metal cap you push against the fabric and that in turn pushes a multicolored painted metal bar out for the other end and tells you what condition the fabric is in. The tool and the box are in very good shape.
