The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Erwin Schwägerl Erwin was a Corporal and was decorated with the Iron Cross 2nd Class, Black and Silver Wound Badge, Infantry Assault Badge and a Romanian order that is not listed. He fell on March 8, 1945 in Tepla, Czechoslovakia; near Chemnitz after 6 years of service at the age of 25. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.
