Description: Shin Gunto Type 95 NCO Sword Type 95 WW2 Japanese NCO, nagasa is 67cms with bo-hi and matching number 78883. Sword was brought back as a souvenir from Burma by a WW2 British Veteran. Bought it from his nephew in Kenardington UK. First variant with bass tsuba, aluminium tsuka (handle has slight discoloration and pommel has small crack), iron saya with single suspension ring. Nagasa and Kissaki are in good condition with no pit, chip, or defects. Slightly dirty with minor spots of rust here and there; which can be easily polished off with mother mag. Can do it myself but decide to keep the original polish since some people prefer it that way. Good overall condition considering its age. Fully authentic with accurate stamp font, number range per type of fitting/mount/material, bo-hi characteristic, etc. Arsenal stamps indicate that this gunto was manufactured by Tokyo Artillery, under the supervision of Gifu/Seki Cutlery, and finally passed the inspection of Nagoya army asernal. Updated: upon further inspection plus a small amount rubbing alcohol to quickly clean out the dirt & gunk, it seems like this specific showato shows sign of a potential hamon under the right light condition (see image). It is possible that the blade has been clay tempered. This is extremely rare since there is only a handful has been reported to display similar characteristics on Nihonto Message Board.
