Description: Selling a photo lot of Rear Admiral Charles Marvin Furlow Jr. USN Navy Ship Commander. From his estate. There are actually 4 photos, of which the two earliest ones are the same photo but one is cut out in a circular form and says on the back in handwriting, "Charles M. Furlow, Jr., Admiral as a cadet at the Navy Academy." The photo of him smiling in his officer uniform has a date of 6/29/45. The photo of him with his hat on might be the same date (6/29/45) because it was taken by the same company (Elliot's Peachtree Studio, Atlanta, Georgia) and has the same stamping on the back. I think Admiral Furlow might have been in the Class of 1922 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. If so, that would be the date of the two older photos. According to the US Navy at their Navsource website, the US Navy acquired from the Marine Commission on 20 April 1942 Cargo Ship USS Saturn (AK-49) and Commissioned it the same day with CDR. Charles M. Furlow in command. Then they converted it to a Stores Ship at Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, VA in April 1944 and redesignated it as Stores Ship, USS Saturn (AK-40) on April 10, 1944. After this point, Mr. Furlow switched ships because the US Navy Commissioned the USS Golden City (AP-169) on 29 May 1944 during WWII and Captain Charles Marvin Furlow, Jr. USN was in command of that ship until 21 August 1945. So, that is the history of him found online and this sale is his pictures. Free shipping in the USA.
