Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating one of the most exciting fictional characters of the Old West, Zorro. Zorro was created in 1919, by an American pulp writer, Johnston McCulley. McCulley set his stories in the Pueblo of Los Angeles Alta California circa 1800's. Zorro was the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega son of the richest landowner in the area. Don Diego learned swordsmanship while away at University in Spain. He is summoned home by his father when California is taken over by an evil dictator. Don Diego wears dark clothing, a hat, and a mask to conceal his identity so he can fight the oppressive dictator. Zorro was the protector of the commoners and indigenous people of California. Zorro would battle evil doers with his cunning, a sword and a whip. The people started calling the masked vigilante El Zorro. Zorro is Spanish for fox. Joaquin Murrieta is the real life person most often associated with the character Zorro. There were several stories about this dashing swashbuckler, as well as tv and movies portraying Zorro. Guy Williams did a great job in the old tv series (late 1950's). Douglas Fairbanks, Tyrone Power, Anthony Hopkins, and Antonio Banderas are a few of the other actors to portray Zorro in tv or movies. Although this figure does not look exactly like Zorro or any of the actors to portray the character in tv or movies, the figure does bear a nice resemblance to the character and spirit of this legendary figure. the figure displays well. stand included. the figure is made for display and not play. This figure would make a nice addition to any collection. PLEASE NOTE- a small black twist tie is used for a bracket to hang the whip on. whip is handmade. mask is fastened at the back with a black twist tie.sold as is. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
